Thoughts About Book Trailers

Happy Monday Readers,

I would like to know what you think of book trailers. Do you find yourself clicking on the buy me button after you view a book trailer? Are book trailers like movie trailers for you? You see the trailer and you must read that book, like you have to see that movie. I am curious to hear your opinions.

  1. I’m debating whether or not to have a trailer made for my third book releasing in May. I do have trailers for the others, but truthfully, I don’t usually look at trailers of other authors . . . unless they’re friends.

I have seen some marvelous ones. Delilah Marvelle produces amazing book trailers for her books.

    • Thanks for your response, Collette. Book trailers don’t sway me to purchase a book. Sometimes I’ll look at them but it’s usually after I’ve read the book.

Delilah Marvelle does have excellent book trailers. I believe the one I have on the blog stars her husband. 🙂

  2. Honestly, they have zero impact on me. If I love an author, I’m going to buy their book. If its a new to me author,I want to read a few pages to see if I connect with the writing. Because it’s all about the writing and the characters, at least for me

  3. I’ve only viewed one trailer. The characters the author chose did not look like I had imagined them and it spoiled the book for me. I haven’t viewed a trailer since and I don’t think I’ll make one.

    • Ursla, that has happened a couple of times to me and I found I was disappointed by it, because I had them already in my mind and the book did not match what the video portrayed.
      Thanks for posting. 🙂

  4. I like book trailers. They either make the book or throw it off course but I still like it. I definitely like the contemporary ones and some Historical ones are done fabulously with clothing and everything!

For me, if I see a really good book trailer I don’t want to read the book but rather I want to watch it! Especially if they’re like movie trailers. I do go search up the book though. Victoria Alexander and Delilah Marvelle has really good ones, and Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas (Historicals) has fun ones.

    • Ki, you are the minority here but I like your view. I do like viewing the historical ones for clothing.

I have not seen a Julia Quinn trailer. I must go find one, since I’ve read all her books.

      Thanks for posting.

  5. Book trailers don’t really sway me one way or another. I generally only look at ones for books I would buy anyway. I do like the trailers for Lisa Kleypas and Delilah Marvelle’s books. Elizabeth Hoyt had a great one for Scandalous Desires too.
