EXCERPT 3

His aloofness showed on his face. “I have a conscience, ma biche, so permit me to give you some advice.” Ignoring the basket she still held up, he rigidly leaned down toward her from within the saddle and rumbled out, “Go home. Paris does not need another penniless country girl trying to get famous. You will only end up whoring yourself out of desperation once you realize the stage pays nothing. Is that what you want? Because that is what awaits you. Acting, whoring, the pox, blaming everyone for your demise, followed by a quick death. If you are fortunate enough to die quick, that is.”

Book for DelilahHe was clearly not an optimist.

She gave him a withering look, lowering her basket. “I have much bigger plans and I can assure you, they do not include whoring myself to a man. If I wanted to do that, I could have easily stayed in Giverny. And whilst, yes, I often barter with men for whatever I need, my stage career comes first. I intend to be the next Mademoiselle Raucourt.”

“I certainly hope not. That woman is a whore. And not a very nice one at that.”

She glared. “How dare you insult the greatest actress in all of France?”

He lifted a brow. “How the hell do you think she became great?”

She gasped. “I am not about to listen to your vile gossip. I happen to like her. Ambition amongst females should be trumpeted not slapped.” Swinging away, she adjusted the heavy basket, wishing she hadn’t picked so many apples and trudged onward. “I will find my own way to Paris, merci. Whore myself, indeed. I have yet to find a man worthy of it. All you apes ever think about is food, wine and poom-poom.”

He paused from adjusting his felt hat. “What the devil are you talking about?”

Why did no one ever get it? “Sex. It sounds exactly what it looks like. Poom-poom.”

A cough escaped him. “Are you saying you have done such things?”

She rolled her eyes. “No. I have ten brothers under the age of eighteen. The eldest of them, at seventeen, is already engaged to one of the girls in the village due to his inability to control the stick between his now hairy legs. I caught Benoit with his bare arse in the air, grunting like the pig that he is. Not a pretty sight. Whilst my parents? Those two lusty little rabbits have made their bed squeak so much over the years, there are visible grooves in the wood floor that will soon take them and the entire bed to China.”

A laugh, low and deep and well-amused, escaped him. “I uh…thank you. I needed that. I have not laughed in…a long time.” He slowly trotted his horse after her and eyed her, amusement lighting his eyes. “I wish to be of assistance, my dear. Whatever you need, it is yours. How can I help?”

Oh, now he cared.

New Release: Master of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle

Readers,
Delilah Marvelle’s newest release, Master of Pleasure book 5 in School of Gallantry series is awesome. It’s a great read and I promise you won’t want to put it down. It’s a fast read. Ms. Marvelle is pushing the envelope in her writing and I like it!

MasterBook Blurb: WARNING: This historical romance is cotton candy with a razor on top. Themes include male virginity, inappropriate behavior and language you really shouldn’t use at home. If you are easily offended by dirty humor and graphic sex, this book is not for you.

After Miss Leona Olivia Webster had allowed herself to fall in love with a dashing childhood friend who had left her scorned and pregnant, she is done chasing her happily-ever-after. Shunned by society, she dedicates herself to raising her young son and putting money in their pockets. She doesn’t expect to be drawn to her latest master, a brooding man of hulking presence who carves random messages into walls with his Persian blade as a means of starting a flirtation.

Malcolm Gregory Thayer, the earl of Brayton, may have dedicated himself to a life of religious virtue after leaving the monastery due to dark tendencies, but after meeting Leona, he begins to yearn for the life that had never been his. When he meets a retired French courtesan who invites him to embrace what he has long feared, he seizes the opportunity to become the man he always wanted to be. His new mission is clear. He intends

My Thoughts: Reading Ms. Marvelle’s books are like eating a slice of rich cheese cake with a side of chocolate strawberries. They are always rich and decadent.

I love a character that fights himself on having true happiness because he feels his own happiness would be too harmful for his partner. Malcolm has been fighting his true nature for years and has not been truly happy. When he meets the vibrant energetic Leona Webster he may be willing to show his true himself to be hers. Leona Webster is not a simpering Miss, nope, she is a strong woman who wants more out of this life and young son, Jacob (who is scene stealer).

What I enjoy about Ms. Marvelle’s story is they are never cookie cutter and she pushes the boundaries and they are ALWAYS a fantastic read. The romance is hot and sweet and I always look forward to the next book.

If you’re looking for a story that will make you giggle, sigh and smile this is the book for you. It’s a hot read with romantic gestures that you may want to try.

EXCERPT“Who painted all of the new additions in the room?” she finally asked. “I did,” he offered from behind, his low voice surprisingly close. Too close. She turned and stumbled toward him, realizing his boots were standing on the hem of her gown. “What—” His large hands jumped to her corseted waist as he stepped off the hem. “Forgive me.” Tightening his hold on the curve of her waist, he lowered his head to hers. “I was admiring your perfume. It’s…” He searched her face, his mouth softening. “How are you?” He lingered, his large hands skimming and then tightening on her waist. He heatedly lowered his gaze to her lips. He leaned in closer, the scent of freshly starched linen and his hair tonic piercing the air between them.  She froze, fully aware that his arms were not only drawing her body against his own muscled frame but that his rugged face was hovering above her own face. His lips edged down toward hers. The scent of spiced ginger from his mouth now teased the remaining space between them.   Heaven forbid he unleash what he was holding in and kiss her. She’d be pregnant in a day. She slapped both hands over her mouth, bumping his arms and kept her palms firmly and rigidly in place. So he had no access to her lips. At all. He stilled, the heat of his mouth grazing her forehead. “Are you trying to be adorable?” he rasped. “Or is this your way of telling me you’re not interested?”

Night of Pleasure (final) @ 2700 high resAbout NIGHT OF PLEASURE: An arranged marriage is daunting, but not as daunting as seducing a spouse whose passions you do not understand… Derek Charles Holbrook, Viscount Banfield, knew his fate since he was seventeen when his father announced his union to the beautiful but mysterious American girl by the name of Miss Grey. To protect the troubled estate, Derek submits to his father’s wishes, not realizing he’s about to entangle himself in a hell of a lot more than marriage. Miss Clementine Henrietta Grey may be worth millions, but not a single coin has ever bought her a smidge of happiness. When she marries the charasmatic and dashing Viscount Banfield, whose only strife in life appears to be the uneven seams in his coat, she finds that siring the heir he wants requires far more than her heart is prepared to give. Unable to seduce his overly-serious and reluctant wife, Derek realizes his dreams of creating a loving family has turned into a nightmare. But with the unexpected assistance of a retired courtesan and her outrageous school, Derek and Clementine discover that passion is a language spoken not just from the body, but from the mind, heart and soul.

My Thoughts:

I typically don’t fall for the hero in the first chapter but I totally fell for Dereck in chapter one. The moment he brought out his tin full of ginger drops, I was hooked. He truly is a sweetheart from the first pages to the last pages. Don’t get me wrong he isn’t perfect but he is the guy you want your daughter to fall in love with and marry. Truly a prince charming. Now, I know what you’re thinking, easy, typical prince charming the heroine is so damaged that he fixes her and they live happily ever after. Well, eh, no, not exactly. Do they have a happily ever after? It’s a Delilah Mavelle book, what do you think? BUT like Ms. Marvelle’s books she has some very entertaining twist and turns that I will not elaborate about but they will make you enjoy the book even more.

The heroine, Clementine is a girl I can identify with on so many levels. How can you not like when an American crosses the Atlantic with  her own opinions about life? She really gives Derek a run for his money but when we see the layers come off Celmentine you’ll want to hug the girl. She is very strong but even the strongest woman needs a hug. I love that Ms. Marvelle changes the rolls a bit in this story. The heroine is a bit standoffish and the hero is all about love and devotion. It’s a good twist and I enjoyed it. This book is a book you won’t want to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the end.

Holiday Cheer- Music, Movies and Books!

Since we are in full swing of the holiday season I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite things that make the holidays special for me. Also, I have read two holiday short stories I think should be on your reading list this holiday season.

Sleigh RideMy absolutely favorite song for the holidays is Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson the instrumental version. I don’t mind the lyrics but I love  hearing the instruments playing this classic. I’m a band geek at heart and this was always one of my favorite songs to perform. It isn’t Christmas without hearing this song. 🙂

urlWe all have our favorite holiday movies. My husband’s favorite is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. We watch it every year to get into the holiday spirit but my favorite is The Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black. Not that your surprised are you? Half the movie is set in England and since the stories I read are set in England it would only make sense, naturally.

15706303All I Want For Christmas is a Duke has two stories with two Dukes who have a very passionate Christmas. Delilah Marvelle an Maire Claremont write two wonderful Christmas stories with love, passion, friendship and redemption. I read this in April and knew it would be a re-read and it was fabulous the second time around. Don’t miss this one!

18998386A Grosvenor Square Christmas is four stories by Anna Campbell, Shana Galen, Vanessa Kelly and Kate Noble. Their stories all center around an annual Christmas ball given by Lady Winterson. All four stories are unique with one thing in common; Lady Winterson’s magical Christmas ball that has certain couples finding love with they least expect it. There are surprises in this story and I loved how we watch Lady Winterson grow through the four stories. Hurry and get this one quickly. It’s FREE on Amazon.

My Top Reads for 2013, Part 1

Screen shot 2013-11-24 at 1.10.53 PMI had a goal this year to read 125 NEW books and I have reached my goal. I am going to post two blogs with my top reads for 2013. Yes, two blogs. I did read 125 books this year and felt I couldn’t pick five books for the amount I read. Not all the books are brand new this year but some that have been out for a long time, and they are new to me. Many I have done reviews on as well. I will post Part 2 later in the week.

2098340Wicked at Heart by Danelle Harmon: This is the first book I’ve read by Danelle Harmon and it won’t be the last. I was in a book coma for a few days after reading this book. This book keeps you guessing to the very last minute. You will experience every emotion while you read it. There are many twist and turns that you honestly don’t see coming. The love the story between Damon and Gwyneth is one for the times. I don’t have enough words to describe how wonderful this book really is.

9645276Midnight’s Wild Passions by Anna Campbell: I spent a good part of my summer devouring Anna Campbell’s books (author interview to come soon!). She is a fabulous writer and I will be auto by anything she writes. This book is about a man getting revenge and sharp tongue companion that will stop at nothing to protect her charge. This book has adventure, lots of laughs and romance.

13489922The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan: Another auto buy author! Take a young lady that is going to the extreme to protect her sister and you’ve got a heroine you instantly love and are cheering for. This book is hilarious. The lengths that the heroine goes to, to keep the male population away from her is remarkable and I love her strength. It’s a great read with a wonderful romantic element with Oliver.

12532672Untouched by Sara Humphreys: This is the second paranormal romance I’ve read and it is just as amazing as the first book that I read (which was a top summer read for me). This story is about a woman who cannot touch others without pain and seeing visions of that specific person. Makes life lonely not being able to touch anyone. Ms. Humphreys’ writes her characters with a lot of depth that makes her stories so fun to read.

15847315Lady of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle: Don’t let the title of this book throw you off. This book is about a long friendship with strong feelings that are ignored and because they have been ignore there is pain for the H/h. There is so much emotion of every kind that you don’t want to put it down becuase you are waiting for the next type of emotion to hit you. Ms. Marvelle pushes the emotional boundaries in this book and it made it a ever better read.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000032_00034]Final Piece by Maggi Myers: This is not a historical romance but a romance. It is VERY emotional. It deals with a young woman that has experience sexual abuse very young but overcomes that and puts the pieces of her life back together with help from a friend. This is not just about a young lady but about a family healing. It’s a powerful read that is full of hope. It is written beautifully. You will want to have your box of tissues next to you as you read this story.

12240496

The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley: Many of you that follow this blog know that I will drop everything (nearly) to start reading a book about the Mackenzie’s. This book was no exception. I loved it. Daniel Mackenzie has been in every book from the beginning of this series as a young man in his early teens. It was a wonderful read that is about the beginning of the Industrial Revolution with many inventors popping up. It was an exciting romantic read with all the fabulous Jennifer Ashley flair.

Happy Reading and stay tuned for Part 2 later in the week.

RomancingLadyStone-DelilahMarvelle(revised)

Fellow lovers of historical romance- Delilah Marvelle can add another amazing, wonderful story to her list of amazing stories!

Keep the magical hour of midnight in your thoughts while reading this story. It a key element to this story.

Lady Cecelia Stone is on her way to Russia to stop her son for marrying a Russian actress. This will not be an easy trip. She finds herself waking up in a carriage sitting across from a man all alone. Her Russian speaking companion is gone. Luckily for her, the mysterious man speaks English and destiny is going to take her for ride with Konstatine Levine that she never could have dreamed of.

Konstatine Levine believes in destiny. One of the many lessons he learned from his father was to believe in fate. Konstatine is on a path to change his life around. He is turning a new leaf and heading to London when he finds a beautiful Lady needing his help in his home country.

Cecelia and Konstatine have such a romantic sweet story. Konstatine makes Cecila feel like a woman who should be cherished, love and embrace. Konstatine is a man with passion and heart. I enjoyed watching his transformation throughout his travels. Also the power of midnight is intriguing and brings an wonderful element of mystery to the story. Delilah Marvelle has done it again; written a romance that makes you heart sing while reading it. I just do not think it’s possible to feel anything but romance when reading Delilah’s stories.

Bonus! We learn just a little bit more about Duc de Andelot and Madam de Maintenon, owner of the School of Gallantry (which will be a full length book!).
