Review: Lady Wild by Maire Claremont

Official Blurb: This is a charity novella for Hospice with a goal of raising $10,000 for donation.

Victorian England is about to go wild…Lady Ophelia longs to be independent, daring and bold, but her mother’s illness has stolen the last of her creative fire. Condemned to an isolated country cottage after the death of her idealistic father, she and her mother are forsaken by family and all of society. Disappointed by those she once trusted, Lady Ophelia lovingly nurses her dying mother knowing that her own dreams of being an artist will never be realized. That is until she meets a devilish aristocrat who reawakens her desire to be wild.

Viscount Stark has never known love. Reputed to be a rebel and a rake by all, at heart he is anything but. When he meets Lady Ophelia, he is struck by her haunting presence, dignity, and honor. Will he continue to play his wicked games and risk ruining the last of Lady Ophelia’s wounded heart? Or will he dare to be the gentleman he always wanted to be and unveil a love he never thought possible?

Lady WildMy Thoughts: This story is about fate and love bringing two people together, and learning to tear down the walls and trust in that fate and love. It’s amazing how love can make a person realize how strong and independent they really are. Ophelia and Andrew come together under very sad circumstances but are shown how to live and love by a dying woman, Lady Darlington, Ophelia’s mother. Ms. Claremont does not shy away from the reality of death and the emotions that accompany it. While this story does have an undercurrent of sadness there is happiness and laughs. I adore Ophelia’s strong personality and willingness to be the woman she wants to be. Andrew is a true sweetheart and underneath the armor of being the rogue he is a romantic. I loved how he truly loved Lady Darlington and wanted her time in London to be memorable not only for herself but for her daughter. Oh and I have to note, Marcus, Lord Vane is quite the dark mysterious character and I am look forward to his book.

Please read why Hospice care is so important to Maire.
Lady Wild is ready for you to snap up! I have a big goal for it. I’d like to raise $10,000 of profits for donation to Hospice. As many of you know, my mother died just a little under two years ago. She fought the battle with cancer and ultimately lost. Her last months were spent on Hospice. My father, too, died of cancer and spent his last 3 months on Hospice. It’s such an incredible organization and I don’t know how my mom or dad and I would have made it without the support of the staff. It’s wonderful that so many people raise money for cancer prevention! But I also think it’s important to help those who’ve sadly reached a point in which terminal illness is the reality. Death is expensive and painful. Thankfully Hospice helps with nursing, counselors, medication, and sometimes even bills. They provide relief for the caretaker. I can’t tell you how huge that is. I’m sure many of you already know. So, together, let’s help make the crossing over of a terminally ill person a little more peaceful, a little more loving, a little more free of fear.

Review: Dancing With A Devil by Julie Johnstone

Official Blurb: A Lord Chained To His Past…
Lord Trent Rutherford’s past has left him guarded, jaded and perfectly content to spend the rest of his life moving from one meaningless affair to the next. Until he meets Lady Audrey Cringlewood, an innocent beauty who makes him question everything he believes. His devilish demeanor guards more than a wounded heart. Behind his swagger lie secrets he’d rather forget than face, but the price of forgetting may be his second chance at life.

A Lady Determined To Shape Her Future…
Audrey Cringlewood longs to marry for love, not convenience. After several months of flirtatious banter, secret smiles and three very unforgettable kisses, Trent Rutherford, the rake known as Sin, proves himself the man of her dreams. Audrey suspects she understands the pain he hides behind his devil may care attitude, but when the truth comes to light, is her love enough to heal all wounds or will the secrets Trent guarded so carefully tear them apart forever?

21461012My Thoughts: Dancing With A Devil was not the typical Regency romance. Yes, it had many elements that are Regency but it was not the cookie cutter Duke meets wallflower and falls in love. Nope, the hero and heroine of this Regency have strong personalities and own thoughts about love and marriage.

From the opening pages of the book Lady Audrey is not a simpering miss. She is determined to have the life she craves. She is outspoken and honest. Audrey is a young lady determined to make the most of life and she is willing to overcome obstacles that may be in her way. Oh and the obstacles come in the form of her father and brother.

Widower, Lord Trent Rutherford like his ladies willing, wanting and experienced. No virginal ladies for him but when Lady Audrey puts him under her spell she is the only thing he will ever want. However, Trent’s wife who has been dead may not be so dead and puts a kink into claiming Lady Audrey.

Dancing With A Devil had many wonderful elements. I was laughing with how honest Audrey was when talking with her peers and in other moments my heart was breaking for Audrey and Trent. There are twist and turns in this story that you don’t see coming, which adds to the charm of the book. This story has a wonderful cast of characters that make it unforgettable.

A Beauty Who Gets More Than She Bargained For. . . .

Rhiannon Evans has longed for an adventure—and a mysterious, dangerous man to sweep her off her feet. While enroute to the tropical paradise of Barbados, she never dreams that her heart will be captured by the dashing American privateer who rescues her from bloodthirsty pirates. Only Rhiannon can see beneath Connor’s reckless façade to the man beneath. But when tragedy strikes, can Rhiannon’s love save Connor from himself? Or will the secret he guards so carefully, end up being the undoing of them both?

988804_10202889596143738_1056727424_nReview: I was hesitant to read Lord Of The Sea. I have never been a fan of stories that involve ships, pirates, privateers and the high seas. It really has never been my kind of story, however, Danelle Harmon has proved me wrong not only did I like Lord Of The Sea, I LOVED it and look forward to going back and reading her back list.

Watch out Captain Jack Sparrow via Johnny Depp, Captain Connor Merrick is one American privateer who makes sailing the high seas sexy. Connor is a straight shooter who goes out there and gets the job done. There is nothing that will frighten Connor when sailing his beloved ship the Kestrel, the ship his father the legendary Brendan Merrick built and sailed before him. He will go out and seize every ship that the British Navy owns- no matter that his brother-in-law is an Admiral in the Royal Navy. The winds begin to change when he meets the young Welshwoman Rhiannon Evans. The fear of his shortfalls that he has kept locked away may encourage this adventurous privateer to become reckless, costing him more than he could ever imagine.

Born and raised in Britain, Rhiannon Evans yearns for adventure and is bound to get it one way or another. Luckily for her, she has a very attractive American privateer to guide her in adventures that she could have never dreamed of. When the attraction grows and blooms into a romance she has always dreamed of, she will find the strength that has been buried to fight for what she truly believes. When an adventure turns into a catastrophe, Rhiannon finds her voice and nothing will stop her from protecting the ones she loves.

I don’t even know where to start to tell you how amazing this story is. Ms. Harmon writes a story that leaves you on the edge of your seat not wanting to turn the page but at the same dying to turn the page, to see what happens next. I have never had so many moments where I lost my breath and prayed that on the next page I would find it. There is adventure, romance, humor, heartbreak and even death. Yes, you read correctly; there is death. The cast of characters are phenomenal which enriches this adventurous romantic story. What makes these characters and story remarkable is the way they are ruled by loyalty to family and loyalty to country, and doing what’s best for both is not always the easiest decision.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a story full of adventure, romance and heart-stopping breathless moments. You won’t be disappointed.

Welcome back Ms. Harmon! I applaud you in writing a fantastic book that has made this non-lover of ships, pirates and privateers want to go and read them! I hope to see more stories from you in the future.
