Review: Secrets of a Viscount (Gentlemen of Honor #1) by Rose Gordon

Official Blurb: One summer night, Sebastian Gentry, Lord Belgrave hauled the wrong young lady to Gretna Green. When her identity is exposed, the only obvious solution is to get an annulment. Only, just like his elopement plans, things didn’t go as planned and while she has reason to believe they are no longer married, he knows better. Wanting to make things right for her, he offers to help her find a husband—what neither counts on is it just might be the one she’s still secretly married to.

19508224My Thoughts: Look at the cover-Gorgeous! 🙂  Isabelle (Belle) is a second daughter with no prospects so when her neighbor, Sebastian (Lord Belgrave) sneaks into her room asking is she ready to leave. She doesn’t think twice and sneaks out the window into the night to marry the handsome young man she has always liked. So what if he thinks it’s her older sister, Rachel sneaking off to elope. When Sebastian realizes the woman he married is not Rachel, but her annoying younger sister, Belle, he isn’t exactly happy and begins the process to have the marriage annulled. After a bad accident Bell is left alone with a tarnished reputation. Five years has past, and Sebastian has been abroad and Belle has been a lady’s companion looking for a husband. Oh, yeah, you read the correctly she is looking for a husband because she thinks she is not married. But when Sebastian shows up after five years and offers his help to find her husband she may find that the husband she wants is the one in front of her. Oh, yes, you read that correctly he comes back to find her a husband. I’ve read quite a few books from Ms. Gordan, and one thing I find she excels in is having a great cast of characters in her stories. I always find them as intriguing as the hero and heroine. She does not disappoint. Giles and Simon are wonderful secondary characters and are great scene stealers. I hope they have their own stories. Welcome back to Regency, Ms. Gordon! I look forward to more books in this series.

Review: A Rake’s Midnight Kiss (Sons of Sin #2) by Anna Campbell

Oh Anna Campbell you never disappoint. I have spent a good part of my summer reading Anna Campbell books as. She is becoming a book household name.

MY THOUGHTS of A Rakes Midnight Kiss:

16007701-1Take a brilliant scholar that is tucked away in the country having her vicar father taking credit for her work, match her with one of London’s most notorious rakes known as a bastard add a valuable relic and what do you have? You have story full of laughs, mystery, romance and sexual tension.

Genevieve Barrett keeps secrets. Her number once secret is her brilliant mind. She writes papers and her father who is the local vicar takes the credit. She has a plan to take control of her life and work. However her plans goes awry when a very handsome young man comes to study with her father.

Sir Richard Harmsworth is known in London as one of the titled gentleman that is a bastard as his sire is questionable. He has used his handsome good looks and incorrigible personality to get what he wants. What he wants the most is for the world to respect that he is Sir Richard Harmsworth the rightful heir to his title and having a ancient relic will help prove his claim. With the help of his friend the Duke of Sedgemoor, Richard finds his way to country and changing his identity to Christopher Evans a young wealthy scholar wanting to study with vicar. What Richard doesn’t fit into the equation is a beautiful young lady that will question himself and beliefs and make him realize what is really important in this world.

From the first meeting in the dark the sparks fly and you know this is going to be an exciting story with explosive characters. Genevieve and Richard spark across the pages with their fun banter and explosive personalities.  There is a lot of secrets being kept among all the characters in this story and it makes it fun while reading it. Richard is a hero you will fall for. He may have London believing he is a rake of the worst kind but he has a big heart tender heart and you cannot help but fall for him. Genevieve is a sweetheart that has been driven to be hard because all she wants is for someone to really say, “Your writing and work is amazing, great job!”.

This read was very different from the first book in the series (Seven Nights in a Rogues Bed). This story had a lot of comedy built in with suspense and action. Anna Campbell has a well ensembles cast of characters that having you turning pages to see what they will and do next. My favorite part of this book is the epilogue. In fact I have coined it as the best epilogue I have ever read. I had tears streaming down my face while I read it AND becuase I try very hard not to give spoilers in my reviews that is all I will say… BEST EPILOGUE EVER!

Anna Campbell keeps bringing her A game to each books she writes. I enjoyed all the elements of this story and I look forward to reading all about the Duke of Sedgemoor in the next book in the series.

Pre-Release Review: Flirting with Fortune by Erin Knightley

I have been waiting to read what happens to the very perceptive Beatrice Moore, since finishing A Taste for Scandal. The wait is no more! Flirting with Fortune by Erin Knightley is all about the spirited Lady Beatrice Moore.

16056370Lady Beatrice Moore is sneaky. Sneaky in a fun way. She likes to know what is going on at all times and has spent her youthful years developing her quiet sneaky ways. She cannot stand fortune hunters and has a way of spotting them quickly. However as wonderfully sneaky she is, her true passion and love is painting. Painting is what keeps Bea full of life and zest. Her idol is the late Sir Frederick Tate and loves all his works.

Sir Colin Tate is the eldest son to the great painter. He is a barrister in training and doing all he can to keep things afloat for his gran and younger siblings. He finally comes out of his studying whole when he is told that his late father mortgaged everything to the hilt and if the debts are not paid his family will lose everything. Colin resigns to coming out into society to find a wife that wants a title in exchange for her money.

Bea and Colin meet quietly in a gallery not knowing one another. There is an instant chemistry and easiness between the two. When Bea discovers that Colin is the her idols eldest son she is awe struck. With a simple introduction to keep things formal a friendship is born and they both become enamored in a fast amount of time. The relationship is progressing until Beatrice learns that Colin may not be all he presented himself to be. How did she not see this coming? Can Colin help her see that the secret between should not destroy the future that could be?

I enjoyed this book and have been waiting to see what happens to Beatrice. She has been a force in the two previous book in this series, so it was fun to read her happily ever after. This was wonderful story of two real people. Ms. Knightley does a wonderful job creating characters that you could easily believe to be your friends or even yourself. I was submerged into this story with it’s wonderful banter and mysterious elements. The family dynamic is huge part of this story as it was with the other stories in this series. This is a fun summer read that could be read a standalone, but I think you’ll enjoy the story more if you go back and start with More Than a Stranger.

A big thank you to Erin Knightley for sending me an ARC for an honest review.

Review: The Seduction of Lady Phoebe by Ella Quinn

I had the wonderful pleasure of reading The Seduction of Lady Phoebe pre-release. Ella Quinn is a new author that writes with beautiful detail. Below is my review for The Seduction of Lady Phoebe.

17788480

Lady Phoebe Stanhope is a spirited young lady that uses her quick wit and not so lady like behaviors (sword play, shooting a pistol riding astride) to protect herself. She is from a big family that encourages her independence by not forcing her to make a match unless her heart is in it. Phoebe keeps the walls to her heart guarded due to a lack of judgement she made when she was younger; where a young man accosted her making her take physical action against him. She still questions her judgement and will not take a risk where a man is concerned unless her heart tells her he’s the one.

Lord Marcus Finley wishes he could go back to the moment eight years ago where he frighten a young Lady Phoebe. He has spent the past eight years away from England in the West Indies, growing into a respectable man that Phoebe would want one day. He is strong, handsome, forward thinking and wants to do right by his family, especially Lady Phoebe. He has loved Lady Phoebe all these years and intends to win her respect if she’ll let him.

Lady Phoebe is of age where she must marry. She is soon to be on the shelf, but she refuses to marry unless her heart tells her the man in question is the one. Shockingly, when she realizes that man is no other than the man that frighten her eight years ago; she has a hard time accepting it. Lord Marcus will do anything to show Phoebe he has change and has loved her all these years. Can Phoebe trust Marcus to believe he really does love her and this is not a game? Will she trust her heart? Will Marcus be able to protect Phoebe from harm as a Lord from his past tries to punish her for something Marcus did years ago?

Ella Quinn’s write description beautifully. While reading I could see everything so vividly in my mind. She writes Regency so well. You feel you are in the ball room or in the drawing room with the family. Speaking of family, readers, you know how I am fan of fun family dynamics. This story has a lot of family dynamic between Phoebe’s family and Marcus’. The banter and closeness is there and you feel you are part of the big family. I enjoyed reading about Phoebe and Marcus.

The Seduction of Lady Phoebe will be out September 19, 2013. You can order The Seduction of Lady Phoebe on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
