BREAKING SANDRA OWENS NEWS!!

BREAKING NEWS!!!
Sandra Owens is going to be releasing a regency novella this summer. Below is what Sandra posted on her Facebook page.

The first book I sold was a Regency, THE LETTER. In it, the Duke of Aubrey and his duchess made an appearance. I’ve had so many requests for Christian’s story, that I’m writing it now – it will be a novella and a toe in the water of self-publishing. Yikes! Scary, that. Here’s a teaser.

The consequences of writing a simple note upon awaking, asking him to call on her, had turned out to be far beyond her expectations. Instead of a short conversation explaining her situation with as few details as possible, she had told him everything, become a woman in truth in his arms, and now he was on his knees offering marriage.
Perhaps she should go have a lie down. Yes, a nice nap might be just the thing. But he loved her, he’d said. Did anything other than that matter?
Yes, there was one thing. “I very much doubt I’ll be an obedient wife.”

If you want to meet the Duke of Aubrey read The Letter and The Training of a Marquess. Two of my favorite historicals. And of course don’t forget about Sandra’s contemporary K2 series. You can buy Ms. Owens book on Amazon.

Book Review: Someone Like Her by Sandra Owens

Known to the K2 Special Services team as Romeo, ex-Navy SEAL Jake Buchanan has yet to meet a woman he didn’t like. There is one though who sets his heart to racing in a way the others don’t. She is off-limits, however, and his boss—her brother—has made that crystal clear.

Troubled by a childhood that still haunts her, Maria Kincaid goes searching for a father she’s never met—and stumbles into a nightmarish experience. With her life in grave danger, she reaches out to Jake.

Jake, a man who believes he isn’t capable of committing to one woman, knows he should stay as far away from Maria as possible. She’s in trouble though and he’ll just lend a hand, then return to his life as Romeo.

As Jake soon learns, some things are easier said than done.

I loved Crazy For Her so when I got the chance to read Someone Like Her I jumped on it.What I enjoyed the most about this book was Maria’s take charge attitude. She gets in the middle of things to get things done. It’s nice to have a heroine that doesn’t like to just sit back and let things happen. What girl wouldn’t love an ex-Navy Seal following her around? I know I sure wouldn’t mind (said the happily married woman!). Jake is a sexy hero with commitment issues. The guy has gotten a bad rap for being known as a “player” but sometimes the right girl needs to come along to stop those ways. Who cares that she’s the boss’ sister. :)If  you’re looking for a book with a great characters, great plot, suspense with hot steamy scenes; this is the book for you.

As Jake soon learns, some things are easier said than done.

Middle-of-the-night phone calls weren’t unusual. Long accustomed to awakening at odd hours to all sorts of noises, Jake alertly reached for the receiver at the same time he eyed the clock. Had the operation gone wrong?

“Buchanan here.”

“Jake?”

Maria’s voice was the last one he expected. Just hearing it sent his heart into overdrive. He sat up, as if by doing so he could get closer to her. “What’s wrong?”

She laughed. “Why do you immediately assume something’s wrong?”

One hundred and ninety-three miles between them did nothing to conceal the brittle note of her laughter. “It’s two in the morning for one thing. You should be sleeping. Don’t you have an early class?”

Silence.

“Dammit, talk to me.”

“I’m in trouble, Jake.” Her voice cracked on his name.

For her, he would step in front of a bullet, but she wasn’t his to protect. She was so far off limits he might as well be wanting the moon.

He forced the words through his teeth that had to be said. “Then you should be calling your brother, not me.”

“I . . . I can’t talk to Logan right now. I just can’t. Please, you have to come.” The words were punctuated by a sob.

Jackson Kennedy Buchanan, in an attempt to be as honorable as his namesakes, opened his mouth to say no, not happening. “Are you home?” He pulled the phone from his ear and glared as if it were responsible for the decidedly inadvisable question. She’d probably had a fight with a boyfriend and needed a shoulder to cry on.

Maria Kincaid—top-of-her-class law student and weeks from graduating—didn’t get in trouble. Maria Kincaid, the woman her brother had put off limits by threat of death. The boss didn’t want his sister anywhere near a man known as Romeo to his SEAL buddies.

Logan’s elite military training and high-risk security expertise have outmatched more dangerous enemies. But the real challenge will be the burning temptation that threatens to overcome Logan whenever Dani is near…especially when she reveals her own hidden passion.

Crazy For HEr Cover-1My Thoughts: Crazy For Her is a fantastic book! I love a book where you can stop and say, “I did not see that coming” and Crazy For Her had quite a few moments where that happened. The twists and turns of this book will have you on the edge of your seat. You will want to make sure you have time to read it because you will not want to put it down. Logan and Dani light up the pages with their chemistry. This book has it all; sadness, heat, romance, comedy, suspense (good heavens the suspense is amazing), love, friendship and so much more. The love story is heartbreaking but at the same time beautiful. The little girl in this book just makes my heart melt and the cast of secondary characters makes this story even more fun to read and enjoy (I love a strong secondary cast). Bottom line this book is fabulous. I cannot wait to read it again and read the next books in this series.

Well done, Ms. Owens!!

My Top Reads for 2013, Part 2

Here is part two of my favorite reads for 2013. In case you are new to this blog I have a reading obsession with Historical Romances. What can I say? I love the setting of Regency and Victorian England with happily ever afters. I am working in more contemporary and paranormal for 2014 but 2013 was the year of Historical Romances.

18012643A Taylor-Made Life by Kary Rader: Tissue Alert! This book requires tissues and time. I am not going to lie, this book is about two young people with cancer. Now don’t turn away, it’s a great story full of romance, laughs, hope and yes, sadness.  Still wanting to run? There is a sequel planned. Now what book with the leading characters that have cancer have a sequel? Not many. You’ll enjoy this read, I promise.

perf5.000x8.000.inddThe Letter by Sandra Owens: I have been telling anyone that will listen to me about The Letter. This is one of my favorite, favorite books. I find, Ms. Owens to be a words smith and writes emotion so well. You will want to cry and laugh. Let me tell you any author that can have a three-legged cat and rabbit steal the show is pretty amazing!

16056420Lady in Red by Maire Claremont: A deliciously dark Victorian romance is what you get when reading this book. Ms. Claremont does a wonderful job creating a setting that seems like the only way out is to fight. Her characters have an emotional depth that pulls you in wanting to know more about them. I felt this book was about taking back your identity and fighting for what’s right. The road is hard but worth every hard step.

15838403

Darius: Lord of Pleasures by Grace Burrowes: This story stirred many emotions for me. It’s about a woman who wants a child and her husband is not able to help in that area. He husband finds a man willing to get the job done and a relationship is formed. It’s a slow romantic build and the ending is surprising and yes you will need tissues. Ms. Burrowes knows how to write a story that doesn’t allow you to put it down.

15778717Sweet Madness by Heather Snow: Conquering demons is the theme of this story. The H/h in this book are trying to fight through their demons by helping others and hiding. Ms. Snow does a fabulous job drawing you into the story and to the characters. You feel the emotional pain and triumphs the characters endure. A powerful read.

81FVqrfzr5L._SL1500_Desire Wears Diamonds by Renee Bernard: I have waited for what seems like forever to find out who was the Jackal that plagued the Jaded. It was an exciting conclusion to a fabulous series. Can I say having all six of the Jaded men in one story was aaaamazing and worth the wait. There is a quite a bit of action with all the usual Renee Bernard flare she puts into her stories.

15839962If You Give a Rake a Ruby by Shana Galen: What I found great about this book and series is that not everything or everyone is as they seem. Ms. Galen gives her characters a depth that you don’t see until you really get into this book. She then begins to peal layers off and we see the characters for who they really hard. It’s wonderful! This book had mystery, suspense, romance, heat and humor. It was great!

16056370Flirting with Fortune by Erin Knightley: This was wonderful story of two real-like people. Ms. Knightley does a wonderful job creating characters that you could easily believe to be your friends or even yourself. I was submerged into this story with it’s wonderful banter and mysterious elements. When reading her stories I feel so happy and when having a rough time I always know Erin Knightley’s books will put a smile on my face.

I read so many fabulous books during my book challenge that I probably could post two additional blog post about them but then they wouldn’t be my top picks. If you have time this weekend pick up one of these books, I know you won’t be disappointed.

To my fellow American friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. To my friends around the world enjoy the rest of the week and enjoy your weekend. I hope you all find time to get some reading in.

Author Interview: Sandra Owens

Today, I am really excited to have Sandra Owens on my blog. She is opening up about why she writes, where she would like to travel and some of her favorite things. Thrilled is just one word that describes how happy I am that Sandy has stopped by to answer some questions. For some of you that may not know she has written two fabulous historical romances, The Letter (see my review here) and The Training of a Marquess  both can be purchased on Amazon. And when I say fabulous, I mean go to Amazon buy and read them this weekend. 🙂

RRG: What attracted you to write historical romances, especially during the Regency period?

Sandy: I would have to attribute my first book to my love of reading the genre. I’ve always loved to write, but only turned serious about it four years ago, and have since written three Regencies, two of them published. I pretty much considered my first book, Katie, Love, the Duke of Aubrey’s story, a practice book. Since publication of The Training of a Marquess and The Letter, I’ve received so many emails from readers wanting Christian and Katie’s story. I’m under contract for two contemporary romantic suspense books, but I’m working on Katie, Love as time permits.

RRG: Where do you get your ideas? One of my favorite scenes in The Letter is when Michael is writing to Diana about the cat and rabbit. Oh, I just giggled and giggled.

Sandy: That’s one of my favorite scenes too, Lindsey. I’m a panster, so I’m never sure what direction my stories are going to take or what my hero/heroine will say or do. As I wrote The Letter, Michael’s sense of humor emerged (I was grateful for that because it helped balance the dark side of the story). After Diana left him and he sat down to write his first note to her, I really had no idea what he was about to say. I honestly believe the rabbit and cats came straight from him because I don’t think I could have ever conceived of such.

RRG: Who’s in control you or the characters?

Sandy: I’m laughing here. You have no idea how much I wish I could say I have some control over them.

RRG: If you gave one of your characters the opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?

Sandy: “Any of you ladies in need of a cat or two? Things are getting a bit out of hand here and the furry devils are all over the place.” Michael, the Earl of Daventry, from The Letter.

RRG: As a child, what do you want to do when you grew up?

Sandy: When I was seven, my parents put me on a direct flight from Miami to my grandparents in West Palm Beach. The flight lasted twenty minutes maybe, but I was in awe of the stewardesses (remember they used to be called that?). I decided then and there I wanted to be a stewardess when I grew up. I never let go of that dream and I did achieve it after I graduated from high school.

RRG: Where is one place in the world that you would really love to visit someday?

Sandy: There’s so many places I’d like to visit, but number one on my list is Scotland.

RRG: Who is one of your favorite historical romance couples? (I know it’s hard to pick just one!)

Sandy: Oh my, I’m torn between Gabriel and Sarah in Judith James’ Broken Wing, and Christian and Maddy in Laura Kinsale’s Flowers From the Storm. Mmm. Wow, this is hard, but I guess Gabriel and Sarah by a hair.

RRG: What type of books do you like to read?

Sandy: Regencies, of course. Those are my favorites. Also, I love contemporary romances and romantic suspense. In non-romance, I’ll read anything Pat Conroy writes, and I love most of Anne Rice and Stephen King’s stories.

Sandra Owens Favorites:

Quote: Where there is love there is life.” Mahatma Gandhi

Snack: Habanero BBQ almonds

Beverage: Hot green tea and red wine

Movie: Camelot with Richard Harris and Vanessa Redgrave. I have the DVD and watch it every Christmas morning. I’d guess I’ve done that for the past twenty years and still cry at the end.

Time of year: Spring when everything’s fresh and new and all the flowers are blooming.

Holiday: Christmas.

Cake or pie? I’m not a big fan of either, but a chocolate cream pie would be my favorite.

Thank you so much, Lindsey, for inviting me here today. I love your blog and these interview questions were fun to answer.

Thank you Sandy, for taking the time to stop by to answer some questions. I am honored you read my blog. I cannot wait to read more of what you write. Happy Writing!

Readers- Below is additional information about the books Sandra Owens has written. Happy Reading!

perf5.000x8.000.indd THE LETTER is a story of a betrayal that wasn’t. Even so, it still tore two lovers apart for eleven years. Michael Jeffres, Earl of Daventry, found his betrothed, the woman who meant as much to him as the air he breathed, in bed with his cousin on the eve of their wedding.

Diana, the daughter of a marquess, remembers nothing of that night. All she knows is she was forced to marry Michael’s cousin, Leo, and then spent the next eleven years in hell.

When the two lovers are brought back together by a letter from Leo a year after his death, they must struggle through all the lies and secrets before they can find a love that far surpasses that of their youth

Training of a MarquessClaire Tremaine, the widowed Marchioness of Derebourne, wears leather breeches, trains horses and helps the damaged ones find their lost spirit.

Chastain Warren, the Earl of Kensington, Chase to his friends, isn’t pleased when he learns he’s inherited the title of Marquess of Derebourne. Having recently lost his beloved wife and unborn child, the last thing he wants is to be attracted to Derebourne’s widow, but he is. This woman who wears breeches isn’t anything like the ladies he’s waltzed with in the ballrooms of London.

It doesn’t take Claire long to realize she wants this man, and when he resists, she comes up with a plan she calls The Training of a Marquess and works her horse whispering magic on Chase

SandySandra lives in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. She is a 2013 Golden Heart Finalist for her contemporary romance, Crazy for Her. A few highlights of Sandra’s life she fondly recalls are jumping out of a plane, flying upside down in a stunt plane, and riding her Harley in the mountains of Southern California and along the coast of Maine. Although those events in her life were great fun, nothing compares to the joy and satisfaction she gets from writing her stories. You can connect with Sandra on Twitter @SandyOwens1 and Facebook at SandraOwens.94043. My Summer Favorites

As I approach the Labor Day weekend and the unofficial end of summer I realized I had an amazing summer of reading. Take a look below at what were my favorites between Memorial Day (end of May) and Labor Day (beginning of Sept). If you have some time this weekend enjoy one of these books! I know many of them will be on my to read again list. The list is in the order of when I read them this summer. Enjoy!

15724338Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare:  This historical romance was hilarious. I had so many laugh out moments that I lost count. The H/h have a charisma that leaves you craving more. I had a great time reading this. I can guarantee there will be moments you will want to share the one-liners you’ll read. It is impossible not to like this book. You will smile a lot while reading it. This is my favorite book by Tessa Dare.

13638570Out of Breath by Rebecca Donovan: The emotional hell Rebecca Donovan put me through to read how Emma and Evan make it gave me at least sixteen new strands of gray hair. It was an emotional roller coaster and I loved every minute of it. *For this book you will want to go back and read the first book in the series, Reason to Breath. As cliche as it might sound there were moments I had to stop and catch my breath.

perf5.000x8.000.inddThe Letter by Sandra Owens: I read this book in one day. It was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. This book was written in a way that captured my heart and soul. I had never been completely engulfed in a story the way I was when reading The Letter. In my review I stated if you could only read only one historical romance this would be it. Really? Who would limit themselves to one historical romance? It was that powerful.

81FVqrfzr5L._SL1500_Desire Wear Diamonds by Renee Bernard: Oh! I have waited for what seems like forever to find out who was the Jackal was that plagued the Jaded. It was an exciting conclusion to a fabulous series. Can I say having all six men in one story was aaaamazing! There is a quite a bit of action with all the usual Renee Bernard flare she puts into her stories. NEWS FLASH- it will be on sale ($0.99) this weekend Aug. 30, Aug. 31 & Sept. 1. So if you are still waiting to pick up you should and read it this weekend! I bet you’ll want to go back and start from beginning with Revenge Wears Rubies, to get the full picture of the Jaded.

10880685Unleashed by Sara Humpreys: Yes! I added a paranormal to my list of favorites this summer. This is uncharted waters for me but I am so happy I stepped outside my reading comfort zone for this. I loved it! It isn’t over the top paranormal. It really is a great romance with really fun characters (and it’s a series!). If you are unsure about paranormal I would start with this book and see where it takes you. I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

1502191Untouched by Anna Campbell: Anna Campbell is an author I discovered halfway through the summer and I instantly felt that author/reader connection. I spent a good portion of my summer reading her books. This story was very dark and touching. The H/h have some big issues that need to be overcome and there are moments you are not sure if theses two will survive. I had moments where my heart just ached for these characters. It’s a beautifully written romantic story with twist and turns.

It was an wonderful summer full of reading. Many of the books listed here have full reviews on my blog. If you want more information please check them out.

Happy Reading!

Review: The Letter by Sandra Owens

A very powerful read.

From the first paragraph of The Letter you are drawn and cannot put it down. I spent a lovely summer Sunday reading this compelling historical romance.

perf5.000x8.000.inddThe story opens with a powerful letter to Michael Jeffres, Earl of Daventry from his deceased cousin Leo. This is not a letter from the grave expressing how much Leo will miss his cousin but a letter expressing triumph; as he took the one woman who Michael ever loved and destroyed her beyond measure, for the last eleven years.

After receiving the letter Michael is prompted to find Diana, Lady Brantley to see what has happened to her. When he finds her the emotions that hit him cannot explain the sorrow and sadness he feels for not believing her all those years ago. Diana is emotionally and physically scared from her late husband. She cannot stand to be touched. The only wonderful thing in her life is her son, Jamie. Can Michael show Diana that all men are not evil and help her gain her sparkle zest for life? Will Michael be able to walk away and leave Diana if she wishes it to be?

Sandra Owens is a wordsmith; with a talent to create a beautiful  story with tragedy, triumph and love. I could not put it down. It was a page turner to the end. Among all the heartbreak and sadness there is hope and laughter. True love does conquer all no matter how many years and events have passed.

And if you aren’t intrigued already… How can you not love a three legged kitten and bunny trying to play peacemaker?

This book is a favorite for 2013 and for years to come. Sandra Owens will become one of my auto buy authors. She is an incredible writer.

Purchase The Letter on Amazon.
