Review: Delay of Game by Catherine Gayle

Book Blurb: With her father’s health in question, Sara Thomas is focused on reducing his anxiety. That’s no small feat considering his high-stress job, not to mention her own distractions. Everyone knows Sara’s single; no one knows she’s pregnant. There’s never a good time to unexpectedly get knocked up, but now is definitely not it. Regardless, she doesn’t want anyone to know—especially not her father—until she has a game plan in place. But when Jonny, one of her father’s players, seeks vigilante justice on the ice, everything gets tossed out the window.

Cam Johnson’s role as a fourth-line winger with the NHL’s Portland Storm entails more than scoring goals. He has to ensure other teams don’t take liberties with the Storm’s star players. The way Cam sees it, that’s the most important aspect of his job. His teammates call him Jonny; opposing fans call him a goon; the media calls him an enforcer. The title’s unimportant. Cam will always fight for his team—even if he has to break the rules. He’s used to taking penalties, but he never meant for anyone else to suffer from his choices.

When Cam’s actions cause Sara’s worst fears to be realized, he blames himself. He’s screwed everything up; now he has to set things right. Mutual attraction leads to lusDelay of Gamet, and suddenly Cam is taking penalties at every turn…at least where Sara is concerned. He’s got to think on his feet or he’ll end up with a Delay of Game.

My Thoughts: Take the coaches daughter that is against dating any man associated with the hockey association and pair her with a big solid enforcer and you have yourself a romance that is full of laughs and drama.

I was really curious to read this book and who Sara would be paired with. Sara has been part of each book and you get a sense of who she is on the surface. She is brash, sassy and takes no prisoners. I love that attitude. What we don’t see behind that sas is her fear to rely on anyone but herself.

Cam is gentle giant. On the ice he is full of power and determination off the ice he is quiet. What I adore about Cam is that he knows what he wants and he is an all or nothing kind of guy. He’s not about talk he is about action and he proves time and time again during this story.

Ms. Gayle doesn’t shy away from real issues in her books and it is something I admire and love about these books. It’s real and honest. The love story is great with a cast of characters that we have loved from the first book. I don’t know how she does it but I want to keep reading when I finish. I don’t want the book to end. I just want to keep reading.

Bottom line I enjoyed this book and loved this series and can’t wait for the next book.

Review: Out of Breath (Breathing #3) Rebecca Donovan

Readers, on Monday evening I sat by my Kindle waiting for 9pm to roll around. I was waiting for the last book in the Breathing series by Rebecca Donovan to be auto delivered. I have been waiting more than year to read the ending of this power emotional series. On Monday evening I started it and finished it on Tuesday. I was absolutely paralyzed by all the emotions I felt while reading the ending to a captivating series.

*Please note this is not a standalone book and the three books in this trilogy must be read in order. With this being said, there could be spoilers (I will try hard not to add them) in this review, but please continue to read and read this series, it will change your life.*

This book is about young adults facing the hard truths that happen in life. We have choices and sometimes those choices affect people we care about. Emma Thomas is running away from those who love her. Running away she feels will save them from the pain she will cause them. However, she does not realize that running away causes more pain and damage than staying and fighting through the pain and emotional scars. She runs from Connecticut to California blocking out the people that care the most and really blocking out her feelings. She is a shell of herself. Emma is getting by with the help of her new friends, but they don’t understand or truly know her. A tragedy throws her into a spiral and back home to Connecticut where she is faced with the one she hurt the most, Evan Mathews.

Evan Mathews is the young man that has loved Emma from the first moment he laid eyes on her in an art class. Two years ago she walked away from him as he laid beaten to a pulp and didn’t look back. He has been trying to understand why and what happened to his Emma over the past two years, and what made her leave and destroy his heart and life. Emma isn’t the only one that has to face dragons, Evan has as well.

Emma and Evan are faced to deal with their demons and try to figure out what they want in life. Both have a story they need to share with one another before they can move on in life, either as a couple or separately.  Evan will do everything within his power and life to help her realize she needs to breath, live, love and be loved. They both will have to truly open up and be honest about what happened the night Emma left Evan lying in a pool of  blood and what has happened to both since that night. Can the raw truth of the past and forgiveness help them build a relationship or with the truth be too painful having them break apart forever?

“Every breath I breathe is because of you. Even when your weren’t there to save me, you were my reason to breathe. And for that I will always love you. Always.”

I knew Rebecca Donovan was going to put me through hell while reading this book. I told myself it was going to be emotional and prepared myself for the emotional roller coaster I would be put through. The reality is, I was not prepared for the emotions that I would experience. This series is powerful and as corny as it sounds you are left breathless. I was put through an emotional roller coast and left in a book coma, I loved it. It was everything and nothing that I thought it would be. This series and book is amazing and will be one I encourage everyone to read. The power of healing and forgiving oneself is the hardest thing to do, but in ordered to be loved and love you must do it.

Rebecca Donovan thank you for writing a series and book that will change the lives of so many people, as it did mine.

Pre-Release Review: Beckman (Lonely Lords #4) by Grace Burrowes

Secrets, secrets, secrets is what Beckman by Grace Burrowes is about. Everyone has a secret to keep not just their secret but others as well.

16099911

Sara Hunt is a master of secrets. She has had her fair share, but as long as she is a housekeeper of a run down estate no one will know her secrets. Sara is a strong independent woman who has to take control of ugly situations trying to make the best life for herself, daughter Allie and sister Polly. However, having these secrets weighs her down with guilt she wears daily.

Beckman Haddonfield is a troubled second son of an Earl. He spent his early twenties self-indulging after his young wife and child dies. He nearly kills himself as he feels he isn’t worth anything and no one cares about him. He finds his way back to the living (after big brother Nicholas rescues him) and will embrace the journey of doing what’s right. Luckily for him his step-grandmother has an estate that needs to be looked after, so to the country he goes to make things right.

When Beckman meets Sara he is intrigued by her resistance to say things, but see she wants to say them. He notices that there is a lot that isn’t being said around the house and it isn’t just Sara that is keeping her lips sealed. When he finds the bright light of Allie painting she tells Beckman she isn’t supposed to be paining and it’s a secret.  Secrets is the name of the game and they aren’t the only ones hiding secrets. Beckman  has his fair share, but a house of secrets is a lot like a house of cards… It only takes one secret to be reveled before they all tumble out…

I found this love story to be very romantic and sweet among all the secrets. The secrets that everyone are keeping are to help protect one another. It’s a circle of secrets to keep their love ones protected and happy. Beckman is a true Haddonfield (if you have followed this series Ethan and Nicholas are his brothers), romantic and truly loves to help and protect woman of all ages. He is a sweetheart with Sara encouraging her to trust him and believe in him. Also, Beckman is a good friend to Gabriel, who has his own sets of secrets. The secondary characters in this story I believe steal the show. They are fun and a great addition to the story. Waiting for the all the secretes to be revealed is fun and will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a great story about trusting in people you care about to trust in yourself.

Beckman will be available on July 2, 2013, but you can pre-order now on Amazon.
